Duffie Cooley, Field CTO at Isovalent, describes what his role and responsibilities are by being a member of the Technical Oversight Committee for the CNCF. So my role is that I'm a member of the TOC, the Technical Oversight Committee for the CNCF, and that group of people works together to define the technical direction for the CNCF as a whole. On the day to day, this looks like being able to evaluate projects and understand whether those projects are viable, and whether we should accept them into the CNCF, perhaps in the sandbox tier of projects that we have. When we start making those evaluations, we try to determine whether this is a good fit for the cloud-native community, whether the project has contributors from multiple sources, and where in the lifecycle of the project it is. Then it's also kind of an ongoing effort, right? Once a project is in sandbox, what is it that motivates that project to move into incubation or even toward graduation? That's a pretty interesting set of challenges, because every project is different and the requirements for going from sandbox to incubation to graduation are also different. To get to incubation, you need to have a security review, and there's a bunch of other things that are involved. In my time in the TOC, I spent a good bit of time working on the graduating projects proposal, which really helped consolidate not only the documentation around all of that, but also our thinking around what is necessary for a project to move between those phases.
